Kyle’s Notes:

In a previous note, I mentioned that November 2023 was a one time bottling of a 7-year old bourbon. To make sure I hit that, we had to plan out using the remainder of the Spring 2017 distilling season and dump in preparation for the future – that is what happened here.  We actually worked on dumping this during the summer although this bottling was developed in March with that release.

I very much enjoy this release, especially the Rickhouse Proof version.  All of the barrels were on the old side of 6 years and with the high floors it came together nicely.  If someone has not tried Ben Holladay before, these two bottlings really reflect in my mind what the core of that mashbill will taste like.

Bourbon Nerd Information:

In March, April, and May 2024 a total of 219 barrels were dumped to produce both the BiB and the national Rickhouse Proof release with a barrel loss of 36.6% during aging.  The Rickhouse Proof version was 123.3 proof.  A total of 32 distilling days (maybe a record for most days?) were used in the batch from the Spring 2017 distilling season. The weighted average for the floor was 4.55 and there were 14 different ricks used as seen below.
