Kyle’s Notes:
This bottling will use all of my Spring 2018 barrels (with the exception of those we hold back for older offerings or One Barrels), so I didn’t have much flexibility here. The two other bottlings of Ben this year both had an average floor of above 4, so it was nice to have some lower floors again and have that variety.
There was one anomaly with this distilling season that we encountered. Previous barrels from the 6th floor had the proof increase dramatically during aging. These ones oddly did not but they produced possibly some of my favorite One Barrels of the Ben Holladay mashbill. I’m not exactly sure of the reason, but I did hold back a few from that rick for further experimentation.
Bourbon Nerd Information:
On 10/30/2024 a total of 61 barrels were dumped to produce just BiB with a barrel loss of 36.3% during aging. A total of 8 distilling days were used in the batch from the Spring 2018 distilling season, and that will actually finish that season. The weighted average for the floor was 3.13 and there were 5 different ricks used as seen below.
